Rita Lucarelli
Associate Professor of Egyptology, University of California Berkeley

Lucarelli is currently an Associate Professor of Egyptology at UC Berkeley and Associate Faculty Curator of Egyptology at the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology of the University of California, Berkeley, and a Fellow of the Digital Humanities in Berkeley. Lucarelli studied at the University of Naples “L’Orientale,” Italy, where she received her MA degree in Classical Languages and Egyptology. She holds her Ph.D. from Leiden University, the Netherlands (2005). From 2009 to 2014, she worked as a Research Scholar on the Book of the Dead Project at the University of Bonn, Germany. She was a Visiting Research Scholar at the Italian Academy of Advanced Studies of Columbia University (2009) and the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW) of NYU (2012). Lucarelli is completing a monograph on demonology in ancient Egypt, and she is one of the coordinators of the Ancient Egyptian Demonology Project: http://www.demonthings.com. She is the PI of the "Book of the Dead in 3D" project on the visualization of ancient Egyptian coffins through photogrammetry (http://3dcoffins.berkeley.edu/). As Faculty Curator of the Hearst Museum in Berkeley, she is currently working and training her students to digitalize and create 3D visualizations of the ancient Egyptian collection of the museum.
