In addition to his role with GoldenStateNet, Mathew is the Director of Technology for the Southern California Tribal Chairman's Association (SCTA) and Director of the Tribal Digital Village Network, which designs and deploys wireless networking with tribal communities in southern California. He also serves as the Director of Partnering and Business Development at Arcadian Infracom (arcadianinfra.com), a fiber infrastructure company, building long-haul fiber assets to serve the needs of the companies driving the demand, dragging fiber through small-town USA and Indian Country, thereby providing opportunities to the unserved and underserved in rural America.
Of Cree (First Nations, Canada), Finnish, and Norwegian descent, a "cyber warrior for community networking,” Matthew is considered an expert on community/Tribal wireless networking. He advocates for net neutrality, broadband for everyone, and opening more spectrum for public consumption, always looking out for the unconnected. He helps 24 SCTCA member tribes in technology development & strategy, bringing state-of-the-art communications to these Nations.
Matthew is Co-Chair of the Technology and Telecom Subcommittee of the National Congress of American Indians, working to draft telecom policy and promote better opportunities with Tribes by engaging the federal government. He was named to the FCC Native Nations Broadband Task Force in 2011 and was reappointed in 2014, serving two full terms. He was also named to the Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council at the FCC in 2013. He served two terms as the Chairman of the Board at Native Public Media and three years as Vice-Chair and Treasurer.
Matthew is a guest speaker on community networking and grassroots efforts to support unserved and under-served communities, emphasizing tribal communities, speaking to local, state, and federal government agencies, and testifying at hearings at the FCC, GAO, and the California Public Utilities Commission. He has had a wide range of international speaking engagements, including ICANN, the Internet Governance Forum(UN), and the Indigenous Connectivity Summit.
