Director, Long Beach Public Library
Glenda Williams has more than 38 years of experience in the public library field, all of it with the Long Beach Public Library (LBPL). She began as a student worker in the Summer Youth Employment Training Program (SYETP) and promoted to Library Page, Library Clerk, Librarian, Manager and was appointed the Director of Library Services 2009.
Glenda is passionate about working with individuals to help them reach their educational and personal goals and promotes library services as an integral resource to improve the quality of life for her community. Under her leadership, the LBPL opened the highly used Michelle Obama Library in 2016, received the national medal for Library Services from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and served on the team for the new Long Beach Civic Center, which includes a new Main Library scheduled to open this summer.
Glenda received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California Los Angeles, a Master of Library Science from San Jose State University and a Master of Public Policy and Administration from California State University, Long Beach (Go Beach!). She enjoys shopping with her sister and loves spending time with her nieces and nephews.
