Planning & Architecture Group Lead, Energy Sciences Network (ESnet)
Chin Guok joined ESnet as a network engineer in the Fall of 1997 after graduating from the University of Arizona with an M.S.
in Computer Science. He was part of the core team that architected and deployed the ESnet4 backbone network in 2007 as
well as the current ESnet5 network. He was the Principal Investigator of the ESnet On-demand Secure Circuits and Advanced
Reservation System (OSCARS) project which received the R&D100 award in 2013, and the Department of Energy Secretary’s
Honor Award in 2014. His current responsibilities include architecting specialized overlay services within the ESnet
production backbone, and prototyping SDN production solutions (e.g. SDX, transport SDN), as well as serving as the lead
architect for ESnet6 due to come online in 2021.
