Joy Sterling is CEO of the Iron Horse Vineyards in Sebastopol, CA where she continues her family's 50-year production while also a member of the California State Food & Agriculture Board, and of the California Coastal Conservancy. She served on the Federal Communications Commission’s Precision Agriculture Connectivity Task Force from 2019-2025, helping shape national policy to expand broadband access and advanced wireless technologies for farmers and rural communities. She works alongside policymakers, engineers, and agricultural leaders to ensure that spectrum, infrastructure, and innovation align with the real-world needs of working farms—advocating for practical, future-ready connectivity that supports sustainability, resilience, and the next generation of American agriculture. Iron Horse was honored in 2024 and 2025 as one of the Top 100 philanthropic companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. It also hosts a 10Gbps Science DMZ for CENIC R&E access to field instrumentation, online wildfire cameras, and multispectral drone data.
