Charity Otwell is the current Director of Critical Security Controls at the Center for Internet Security (CIS), a global nonprofit organization that serves the cyber-underserved by developing and validating cybersecurity best practices. Charity leads the Critical Security Controls Team of engineers that research, produce, and maintain the Controls framework, as well as the supporting ecosystem of framework-to-framework mappings, white papers, deep technical research, and guides available to all end users.
Additionally, Charity is responsible for community outreach and strategic partnerships on behalf of CIS to further enable global Controls adoption. Before joining CIS in 2023, Charity held various leadership positions in the financial services and healthcare industries for nearly 20 years, which included IT Governance, IT Process Engineering, Information Security Engineering, Business Continuity Management, Disaster Recovery, and Incident Management. Charity holds multiple industry-recognized certifications as a GRC practitioner and best practices advocate.
